Prospective Students

The DCI is seeking PhD students!

If the research areas of the DCI resonate with you, or if you have other research interests connected to Digital Curation, Digital Stewardship, or sustainability in Information Systems Design, read on!

The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto invites outstanding applicants for entry into our 2017-18 doctoral program.  An intellectually diverse and rich environment, the Toronto iSchool is an ideal place to pursue groundbreaking research about information, technology and people.

We welcome applicants who demonstrate intellectual curiosity in any area related to our fields. Students with research interests in digital curation and preservation, research data management and digital scholarship, and sustainability in information systems design are especially encouraged to apply. Working with the DCI allows students to pursue their own research while also providing connections with partners, collaborations across the university, access to DCI lectures and workshops, and research assistantship positions on current DCI projects. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Digital curation
  • Digital stewardship and digital preservation
  • Systems for digital curation and preservation
  • ICT systems for sustainability
  • Sustainability in Information Systems Design
  • Sustainability Design for software systems
  • Research data infrastructure, capabilities, and services
  • Open data and data sharing in research and science
  • Preservation planning and decision making in digital curation
  • Digital heritage
  • Cultural heritage and museology
  • Digital heritage curation, ontologies and practices

Right in the heart of Toronto, the world’s most diverse city, the faculty is located in the center of a thriving campus. This provides an inspiring background to engage in influential research into critically relevant questions that bridge aspects of technology and society, connecting theory and practice.
